Level 1 Motor Vehicle Studies
Our nationally recognised Level 1 Award in Motor Vehicle Studies, accredited by SEG Awards, provides schools and PRUs with a structured, high-quality off-site vocational pathway designed to re-engage learners, raise aspirations, and support positive post-16 progression.
This programme offers far more than a qualification. It provides a purposeful, hands-on learning environment where students develop practical skills, employability behaviours and industry awareness within a fully equipped workshop setting based in your local Team Sport site.
Programme Structure and Curriculum Overview
Each learner completes a carefully structured programme made up of industry relevant units designed to develop both technical knowledge and practical competence.
Health and Safety in the Motor Vehicle Environment
Students develop a strong understanding of workshop safety, hazard awareness, risk assessment, correct use of tools and equipment, PPE, fire prevention and emergency procedures. This unit builds responsible working habits and reinforces transferable safety knowledge that benefits learners across all educational and workplace settings.
Vehicle Inspection and Maintenance
Learners gain hands-on experience conducting systematic vehicle checks, identifying faults, understanding key components and carrying out basic maintenance procedures. This unit develops attention to detail, diagnostic thinking and practical problem-solving skills.
Spark Ignition Power Systems
Students explore the principles of petrol engine operation, component identification and basic servicing procedures. They develop an understanding of how spark ignition systems function and apply this knowledge during practical workshop tasks.
Structured Daily Format for Maximum Engagement
Each training day is deliberately structured to balance knowledge development, practical application and reward-based engagement.
1. Theory Session
The day begins with focused classroom-based learning. Students are introduced to key concepts, terminology and underpinning knowledge required for safe and effective workshop practice. Teaching is interactive and accessible, supporting learners of varying ability levels.
2. Hands-On Practical Workshop
Learners then apply their knowledge in a fully equipped workshop environment. Under close supervision, they use industry-standard tools and equipment to complete practical tasks aligned with the qualification criteria. This applied learning reinforces understanding, builds confidence and develops real vocational skills.
3. Track Time (Incentivised Engagement Session)
The final element of the day is structured “track time.” This serves as a motivational reward linked to effort, behaviour and engagement throughout the session. It provides students with a positive goal to work towards while further strengthening their interest in the motor vehicle industry.
Track activities are supervised, structured and used to reinforce teamwork, responsibility and self-discipline.
